Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of emotional exhaustion and role conflict on
turnover intention mediated by work stress. The population in this study were 125 nurses at
Aisyiyah Muntilan Hospital. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, amounting to
85 people. Data collection using questionnaires, validity and reliability tests using CFA while
data analysis was performed using multiple regression analysis. The results showed that: (1)
Emotional exhaustion had a negative and significant effect on turnover intention. (2) Role
conflict has a positive and significant effect on turnover intention. (3) Emotional exhaustion
has a positive and significant effect on work stress. (4) Role conflict has a positive and
significant effect on work stress. (5) Variable work stress can be a mediating variable of
emotional exhaustion against turnover intention. (6) Job stress can be a mediating variable of
emotional exhaustion against turnover intention. (7) Job stress can be a mediating variable for
role conflict over turnover intention.
