Abstract

stevia leaves (Stevia rebaudiana) are used as a non-caloric sweetener in the world. Unprocessed high-tech stevia powder is perfectly safe to use, calorie free and has a sweetness level 200-300 more sweeter than cane sugar. Stevia is a natural sucrose that contains with a very high nutritional value that is beneficial for oral health. Stevia and gambir are beneficial for oral health and eliminate the causes of tooth decay and gingivitis. Stevia leaf extract was taken by maceration extraction method with 5 days storage. The stevia volume used for each formulation was 0 ml, 0.5 ml, 1 ml, and 1.25 ml. Gambir (Uncaria gambir roxb.) Used for each formulation of 0 grams, 0.5 grams, 1 gram, and 1.25 grams. Testing has been done for toothpaste formulation are organoleptic test, physics test includes : homogeneity test and spreading test, and chemical tests that is pH test. Tests of toothpaste for 3 weeks resulted in homogeneous toothpaste in the first and second weeks but were less homogenous in the third week. Stevia leaf extract showed good results observed organoleptically. PH produced during 3 weeks is qualify in the SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia )while the formulation spread is qualify too when applied to the toothbrush.
